What rpm should the engine be at when setting the timing?

Thanks buddy. Thats exactly what i was looking for. I was reading the rb25 threads and nobody was saying about the rpm they were reading things at. Another question, that thread says to unplug the brown plug. Do i unplug the brown plug, then adjust the rpm to 650rpm?

Alright im gonna redo my timing tomorrow according to what the fsm says. Pretty much drive it to operating temps, then disconnect the tps, set the idle to 650rpm, and set timing to 15*. I dont know what AZhitman is saying about the brown plug.

And Joe, i love me an ol carb small block, mmhm. haha. electronics are nice but such a pita to work with most the time. also it would be so nice if the ecu's were easily tuneable like a GM ecu is.

Also you can use the timing loop on the back of the Ignitor I got mine to work like that, It was hell and 1/2 to get the connector in there, but I eventually did, I have an OLD Skool 70'S craftsmen gun that will work with damn near anything though

That's what I used. It's reading 15* with the tps plugged in and with it disconnected. Does this sound right?

Read the FSM. It says 650 rpm and 15* BTDC with the TPS unplugged. Like has been covered many times before, some people cannot get the idle to stabilize when the TPS is unplugged.

I set my idle at ~800 and leave the TPS plugged in

Warming the car up and setting it at 15* are the important steps.
