timing

im almost done putting an s14 motor in my s13. the only thing that seems to be left is to set ignition timing and i don't know if im supposed set the crank at TDC or -20 BTCD. am i supposed to remove the distributor again to set it to number 1 or is there a way to do it with out removing it. im quite novice at this and details would be very helpful.
