What do all of you have your timing set at? I beleive mine is at like 13 or 15 degrees, not exactly sure, but doesn't seem to be running right. A buddy of mine with the same engine, but doesn't have a FMIC (I have one), has his timing at 25 degrees and his car runs like a dream. I occasionally knock the boost up to 12psi, so if that helps any, what degree should I set the timing? Just adjust til the cars idles perfect? I don't want to detonate or any of that &hit. Confused over here. Thanks.

weird, just did the timing, and it runs good at 24 degrees. I have no idea how that is possible. Oh well. No signs of anything bad like detonation or anything. Running well.

No idea. Works fine for me. I noticed huge difference in acceleration. Before this change, I was losing to my buddy with an SR20, and then on race day, he had his a$$ handed to him. Weird. I'm not saying for anyone to do this, but it just seemed to work a lot better for the both of us. We both have it at 24 degrees. Yeah, I have no idea where the mark is. His was all the way to the right. Last notch. Mine I don't know, cause I didn't time mine. Sorry.

last notch to the right is 20 btdc. not 24 or what ever. 15-17 is what the factory service manual says, while idling at 750rpm or so. not at 900 rpm.shaun

so is 20* btdc better to run? are there any side effects? does it make you more prone to detonate?

I have to set the timing on my SR to get it started, it's way off and it didn't start when I tried to fire it up for the first time.

I have an upgraded t-28 turbo but I am only runing a SMIC for now and I don't want to risk detonation. would the factory timing be the safest bet with an upgraded turbo, until I get a FMIC?

It would be the safest bet to get it started at first. Then set it to the desired or best degree thereafter.

I need to set my timing, I idle at like 1250 just to keep the car running...
