timing

Hey does anyone have any problems setting there timing. I just put another det in my 96 240 and the timing seems to go back and forth and Im trying to set it at 17 or so like usual. I unhook the tps connectors and turn the dist. to the desired mark which is slightly past the fifth mark on the crank pully and it just fluctuates alot and when I plug the connectors back in it reads around 17 but still fluctuates too much. I've seen the sob idle much better than that before. Givin I have some electical issues around the computer from the original install I had done back in 2000 when I had them install the afc and later I added the avcr the tps voltage is .01 to .02 volts off between the gauges. the avcr seems to register more than the afc which is more important. This little issue has always been a big issue. I've resoldered all the connections of both gauges to the computer and even ran the afc closer to the computer and vice versa and never any change. I run on a JWT comp but the car seems to run better on the stock ka computer sometimes if I switch out for testing s hit. anybody got any Ideas? Ive got my tps adjusted correctly in the right range.
