For a long time, my car has been a slow piece of crap. Slower than a bone stock automatic 240. A couple days ago I checked my timing and it was at around 17 degrees, so I bumped it to 22, Im running 87 octane and the car runs awesome. Im not sure what a detonation sounds like, but is it safe to run 22 degrees timing on 87? I wanna keep it this way, an actual quick car now.

22 is just fine.. you should be running a higher octane anyways.. its good for you... kinda like milk.. stock timing is 20+- 2 deg.. so 22 is cool

Thanks, I just didnt really think 5 degrees of timing would actually give me that much power, the car feels alot better now.

I would run higher octane, it's 10 million degrees right now and your ECU will trim the injectors to run leaner with the hot weather.

best explanation i ever heard was a cann full of BBs rattling. and every time i ever heard it, it was much easier to hear with the windows rolled up. ive never ever heard my 240 detonate though, its a lot harder to hear on four cylinders too.... but i only ran 93 until a week ago when they ditched it

It sounds like a bad gasket, real airy sounding but a little tick.

If it sounds like that, then Im not getting any detonation. There is this wirry sound though, like Im about to get a bad pulley bearing, I dont know if I had it, I guess I havent really checked for noises besides the usual timing chain slap.
