OK a buddy of mine wont listen to me about his timing. (I could be wrong though.)

He has a 96 KA and he is always doing unnesasary (sp?) repairs to the car. He likes to think that working on his car daily makes him mechanic. I dont get it.

Alright so I dont know to much about timing on a stock KA but I do know a little. Please correct me if im wrong.

The other day he was taking stuff apart in his car and putting it back together. When he was done we went for a ride around the block. As we come to a corner his idle starts dropping down to about 400 then back to 1000 and then back down to 400 etc. So we go back to the house and pop the hood. Well im looking around and I see that his Distibutor is turned completely clockwise. I told him right there that was prob the reason that his car had idle problems. He asked why and I didnt really have the facts to back it up so I just told him that his timing was seriously retarted.

let me try to give an example.

If 1 is the timing fully advanced on the distributor and 12 is fully retarted then he had it set back on 12. So anyways I moved the distributor counter clockwise to about 4. Started the car and the idle problem went away.

So the next day I come to find out that he had moved it back to 12 again because I "didnt know what I was talking about" and cause he "could feel a huge loss of power."

could some people back me up with some fact or tell me im wrong. Either way it will be appreciated.

thanks

If the proof of the change in engine manners when it was moved was not good enough for your dip**** freind nothing will be. He is a world-class moron, enjoy his antics and keep a taxi companie's business card in your wallet for when his car finally breaks.
