-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cliff notes at bottom Okay, to start off, I just modified my distributor to run the MSD BTM. I have a check engine light for the ECU not receiving a signal from the ignition that I haven't solved yet. When I went to setup my base timing, I ran into a bunch of issues. I initially set it up using the directions on ka-t.org. When I disconnected the throttle position sensor, the idle shot up to 1100. I had a hard time locating the idle adjustment screw, as I'm using the Haynes 240 manual, which covers the 240 AND the altima, and doesn't always provide separate pictures or descriptions for each. I finally located what I believe to be the idle adjustment screw, at the back of the engine accessed from the lower right side. I adjusted the idle down to roughly 700rpm and set the timing to 20btc. After shutting the vehicle off and reconnecting the tps, I started it up and it promptly died. It would not stay running unless I gave it some gas right after starting to keep it going. Without disconnecting the tps, I adjusted the idle back up to 800 rpm. I was still having idling issues, to include surging at idle, and dieing right after startup. I disconnected the TPS, and adjusted the idle back up to 1000rpm. At this point, the timing was showing approx 25 btdc. I reconnected the TPS, and now my car idles fine at 800-850rpm. The timing shows 20 btdc, but I know its not the same when the tps is connected. Any thoughts or ideas? I don't want to blow my motor running the timing too high when I install the turbo this weekend...

Short version: Modified distributor to run MSD BTM Car ran fine while warming up to set idle, approx 10 miles driven set timing per ka-t.org's directions car would not idle when first started, idle jumped around set idle to 800, still should not run properly Set idle to 1000 with tps disconnected Car now idles at 850, runs fine Whats wrong?

prolly not your timing. might have something to do with installing the BTM.

Now you said you tapped into the white wire running to the distributor? I have something for you to try.

1) Cut the negative wire running to the coil2) Connect the white wire from the BTM to the negative wire running to the car.3) Connect the orange wire to the negative side of the coil4) Assume you already have the red wire tapped into the postive side5) Assume you already have it grounded.

I know this way works. I set the boost retard to start at 0 and adjusted the cabin control knob. It retarded 3* on the dot.

I would also check out the TPS.

I followed daniel240's directions...

"i installed mine over a year ago but i found these instructions i made laying around. heres what you do. on the smaller distributor plug (the one w/ only 2 wires coming out) there will be a light green wire w/ a black stripe, and a black wire w/ a red stripe. (hopefully yours is the same) you are going to cut the light green wire a few inched from the plug. take the part of the wire that is connected to the plug, and you connect the orange wire from the btm directly to that wire. the other peice of that wire (that goes back to the ecu) gets spliced into(T'd into) the white wire, that will be comming out of the distributor once you wire it. now the other wire coming out of the plug(blk w/ red stripe) is were you will splice (T) in the red wire from the btm. and you are done. it looks like a mess when your done. you dont do anything w/ the wires from the larger plug. for the white wire, i dont remeber exactly what you do. it is the hardest part. you have to take off your distributor, and you break a connector inside the distributor and solder the white wire to one side of it and run the wire out of the distributor. I drilled a small hole in the distributor right by the rubber seal.

hope this helps"
