K well I am digging into my 92 G50.Ive got the plenum and valve covers off.

I plan on replacing the 2 knock sensors, maybe an injector or 2, timing chains, tensioners, O2 sensors, valve timing solenoid on the driver bank, and maybe a few other things with some help.

K here is what is going on.The car has a rattle coming from the pass/right bank behind the timing chain cover. A noise coming from the top of the left bank is also present spuratically. ticking possibly? I dont know where for sure. The VVT solenoid is damaged somehow near the connector and I have no idea if it works. The ECU throws a code for injectors and the knock sensors. That is all that I can get right now from the codes. All the rubber hoses associated with the crankcase evacuation system are brittle and shatter like glass. I need to get all of those as well. The spark plugs... Well the COPs(coil over plug) seem to have an issue. The # 1 and 2 cylinders have moisture around the boots... #6 is rusty colored and looks like it was arching all over the place... One of the COPs seems to be 2 peices where the boot comes off and others seem to be a single peice. Has the 2 peice COP broke and is it in need of replacement? Im almost thinking I should just buy a new set of COPs.

My personal assesment is that timing chain slack in conjuntion with or without the valve timing solenoid is causing the extra tick on the left bank... I have the valve cover off and I can see no damage that would cause that noise so I am assuming it is kissing the piston... What do you guys think?

Thanks guys

Ray

Have the timing chain guides been replaced with the updated ones or are they original '92 chain guides?

Also, does the chain tensioner on the left bank still have black plastic just behind the head or is it bare metal?

Mileage?

Pics?

Detailed pic of the front of the engine please, with the valve cover off.

I hope you don't have this.........

All that was left of one of my timing chain guides.....

This is what the other guide looked like

(These are the slack side guides, so if they are missing, it may still look ok by eye...)

The rest of the guides, made their way into the sump.....

Get ready to buy a timing chain guide replacement kit from Joe @ everythinginfiniti.

Oh, and the COP's should be 1 piece. While you are in there, change the plugs with OEM NGK Iridium ones, and replace any coil packs you aren't sure of...

OEM plugs are not Iridium but PFRG (5 or 6) Laser Platinum designed specifically for the VH45DE.

I know about the Laser Platinum plugs... I use them on my turbo charged 260Z and 240Z as they give the most life expectancy and seem to survive the best.

I havent got the front covers off yet so I dont know what the tensioners look like so far. Im worried the valves may be kissing the pistons any ideas on that?

Also how do I clean out the plug holes... CLR, vacuum, carb cleaner, ???

Thanks guys

And a pic of the timing components you should see inside the timing cover area.
