timing rattle question

I just went to fix my timing chain rattle, and when i set the #1 cylinder at TDC i don't know if it was on the compression stroke or not, does this matter? or is it ok as long as its on the compression stroke?

did you line it up using the marks on the crankshaft pulley? if so then it is right

yep, i actually got it to start and its all good, but i was worried for a few moments there
