I have a 94 sentra with the 1.6 in it and a couple weeks ago the water pump went out. I replaced the water pump and decided to replace the tensioners and guides while I had the front end torn apart. All together I replaced the water pump, lower and upper tensioners, lower left chain guide and front crank seal. My car did not have any chain rattle at all before this and now it rattles very loud on cold starts. I pulled the upper cover back off took the upper tensioner back out checked the timing...it is good and I have driven it a total of two day (about 2hours each day) and it runs great but makes a terrible rattle noise at start. The old tensioner where the canal is for the oil it only lined up with about half of the oil passage from the block and the new one was just a little worse. So thought maybe its not getting enough oil to build pressure right away for the tensioner. So I drilled the new one out a little so it should be getting better then the original but didnt make a difference. It rattles for about 2 seconds then goes away.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks guys!

You took the timing cover off to do the water pump?
The gasket for that tensioner has a oil cut in it, right?
Is it flipped over by chance?
All the o-ring seals to the cover get back in?
