Hi, Cannot get timing lite to work so I am going to set it anyway until it pings. Which way is advance clockwise or counter clockwise. I cound only move it a hair clockwise so maybe it is already advanced. Which turn advances the timing CLOCKWISE ? ? ? ?THANKS Peabody

you need to use the timing light or you run the risk of damaging stuff. you hooked both + and - leads up to battery, and the clip to the 1st plug wire right, it just clamps on to the outside of the wire

if you still want to advance it, it is clockwise i think

Hi, Got the lite working but cannot find the scale (timing marks) to shoot the gun at. To be honest I really do not know where to look. I know where it is on old GM V8 but cannot find it on my 240.To much stuff in the way. I really could only move it a hair clockwise from where it was. I am the original owner and the timing was never changed from day one. I have always used 93 Octain because of the new computer I got back in 93 that had a more aggressive timing map. H E L P

On the SOHC it's clockwise to advance and counter to retard.

there is a small bar that sticks out over the crank pully, aim it at that and you will see the marks "stand still"

I have no idea why I cannot find the marks. Are they on the same side of the car as the distributor? Do I have to remove anything to see the marks? I was only able to turn the distributor a small amount before it could not turn anymore so I guess I am at max advance and cannot go anymore. I always use 93 octaine and it does not ping so I guess it cannot go anymore. I will try to find the marks again. Maybe I am just blind, I do want to see where the timing is.THANKS, Peabody

you have to loosen the bolt holding the distributor assembly to the block to change the timing drasticially

The marks are on your crank pulley. There are like 5 or 6 little white marks on it and by pointing the timing light right at the crank pulley you should see them. Stand right in front of the car, look down and you'll see a little point sticking out of the front cover and point the timing light right there.
