ive had issues with my sr. basically it wasnt running well. it just didnt have any power. i thought it was the maf. went through two mafs and wich resulted in upgraded to z32 maf. any way triple checked to see if i had vaccum leak, boost leak, intercooler leak. none of those. i didnt think that timing would be an issue. but that is what the problem was. my freind adjusted the timing while i watched the tach idle. wich now idles at 900. my question is. what should my timing be at. should it be advanced? should i readjust timing. if im idling at 900 what is my timing at? how much can i advance? these are one of the things i had to fix when i took my car from the *** f*** who was supposed to do the swap for me. he tried to tell me that my engine wasnt running right. so i went up there and took it from him. im thinking he purposely retarded timing to make the car run crappy.

RPMs and timing aren't dependent on each other. But they can affect each other.

When timing is set, the motor should be idling at around 750 RPMs (you can adjust the idle up and down by twisting the screw adjuster on th eintake manifold. it's in between the runners). The timing should be set to 15 degrees BTDC. That would be the second mark from the right if you look at your crank pulley.

I'm assuming you have a timing light.

nope. just hook your light up to the black loop at the rear of your coil pack harness, get the motor to operating temp, disconnect the TPS, and check the timing. Rotate the CAS to change the ignition timing.
