The markings on the crank pulley, which positions are they markers for? This is regarding throttle position and setting the timining. I've searched here on the forum and gone through FSM's I have for S13's and it's not mentioned. Can some one shed some light on this?

I still haven't been able to find anything yet, does anyone have any ideas? I'm trying to set the timing to tdc and I'm just trying to find out what each marking stands for on the crank pulley. I've been through this before however it's been a few years and I can't remember.

You set it to the 2nd to last (15 degrees BTDC)

Thanks for the link. So you're telling me as well that 15d BTDC is better than TDC? I am not stock by any means with my setup so I was going to use TDC and then adjust my cams. Why do you mention 15d BTDC?

You mean to tell me you have added cams and all kinds of goodies and know nothing about setting the CA's timing? Anyways, nismo1182 is right! It's 15* BTDC. What type of cams do you have? You must set the TPS using a voltmeter as guessing will not work! A bit of advice friend, if indeed you have a CA18DET motor and don't even have the FSM, nothing anyone says to you will really help because you have no knowledge as to what you're dealing with. Ask someone to help you wih FSM for the S13.

dee, what all is involved in setting the timing? i just lined up the cams and crank the way it showed in the FSM and put the belt on. what else do i need to do? i'd like to know i did it correctly before i try to start it up. oh, and i will be using that SMT6 piggy back controller for my set up as it lets you adjust timing and fuel.

Sorry for the newb post but I am not knowledgable when it comes to timing and tuning stuff.

Thanks for the info. I do have FSM's for both the CA and the KA but it's been so long since I've messed with the timing. As far as my setup, I've been using it now for the last 5 years or so. Since I got it, I've had it bored out, changed internals (to include the cams) and other goodies here and there throughout the engine. I'm sorry if my profile is misleading, I don't come around here that often as you can tell.Details on my setup? Nismo CA19 rebuild kit, Nismo bearings throughout, port/ polished head, Tomei 1.2mm metal headgasket, Tomei 256 in/ex adj cams, 660cc inj (which I'm selling a second set by the way), flex-a-lite dual 12' fans, no p/s, no a/c and a T04E with an HKS wastegate.

What type of fuel management system are you running that will control your 660cc and what type of power have you achieved so far in 5 years.

You should be using coilpacks and you will be checking the timing by connecting a timing light to your #1 spark plug wire.

As for management, I using the SAFC 2 and the AVCR. Then added to that, I got a rom tune before I left Japan. So, as far as that's concerned, I've got that covered. My only regret is not getting a backup computer that I could play with. No one here in the states (that I've been able to find) can tune a CA.Back to the main topic at hand though, I went and set things at 15d btdc. Before I reset things, the last tuner I worked with had me set at 20d btdc! Which was a shocker! After it's all said and done though, I'm still not boosting right for some reason and my oil pressure is high now as well. Stock/ normal is some where between 2-3 bar, I'm now sitting at around 4. My idle is the same, it's set for 900-1K. So, once again I'm back to square one. I double-checked myself with the FSM's I have on hand and what I did is what they say to do. So, I'm stumped. If anyone has any ideas, I'm game.**In case the tone went south earlier in all this, I wasn't out to piss in anyone's cereal nor was I looking for it. I usually don't bother with the forums because of that. I'm hoping this will explain why I only have a count of something like 13 or 14.
