hello, I am currently rebuilding my ka24de. I have currently gotten to the timing of the engine and am stuck because I can not find any timing marks on the lower timing chain. my question is could I just set my #1 cyl, to TDC and set my lower timing even if the markings on the crankshaft sprocket and the idler sprocket are off? I know I have to get my cams aligned perfect and im sure I can do that. its just the lower timing that I am concerned about. it shouldent be a problem if my #1 cyl,at TDC right? I have no markings on my upper timing chain also,so I was hoping to just set the cams the way on the JWT website. I could just use like paint or something to mark the chain. and then set my dist, to #1 cyl, is there any problems with this set up? has anyone ever had this problem before? I dont see why this would be a problem if I am at #1 tdc and my cams and dist, are aligned. what is even the point of having the marks on the timing chain anyway? please let me know so I can finish my engine. thanks

well, i dont know why you cant find the marks, but:

yes, you can do it that way. Just make sure you never move the crank. If you have an S13, can set cams properly at TDC, and know that #1 and 4 are at TDC then you can neglect all the marks. The CAS is in the dizzy it' wont even notice.

Why are they there? because not all mechanics or good enough to pull this job off. Its nice to have for upper chain jobs, but not necessary.

eventually in a few thousand rotations the marks will all line up.

yeah I cant find the timing marks at all on the chains. so I am just going to set it a TDC and then install my upper timing chain. is CAS for crank angle sensor? and is this built in to the dist,? thanks

i spun a bearing, so i said **** that motor.

this is a motor i had lieing around that i built during the downtime, as a spun bearing is unpredictable.

that and this car wouldnt be possible to drive in the snow around here.

everything is fresh on it, so there are gonna be a lot of fingers crossed.
