I just finished installing the front cover on my ka24e last night after replacing the timing chain, front oil seal, and tensioners. I noticed in my Chiltons manual afterwards that there is a silver link on the timing chain that is supposed to line up with a mark on the cam sprocket. If I didn't move the crank or cam sprockets when changing out the chain will it matter that I didn't line up the silver link with the matchmark? I could not see how it would matter if I moved nothing when changing the chain. I just need for some of you guys/girls to tell me not to worry about it so that I can rest my weary mind. I haven't put the crank pulley ( a new ASP) on yet, so if anything needs to be done let me know.

Thanks in advance, John.

don't quote me on this, but this is my take:

no, it will not matter, and your car will be fine. however, if anyone down the road has to play with your timing they will need to know the chain is not lined up.

now i could be wrong, so like I said, don't quote me. but thats what i would tend to think.

man its best to reset the timing completely. a guy came in the other day and did just what you said and his car ran like crap. just set the timing marks and everything back up. good luck.
