Ok I got everything buttoned up. Just need help with the timing both cam gears are off a tooth. What trick did any of you use to get the cam gear to stay on the timing mark. Everytime I try to rotate the gear a tooth it just snaps back to where it was. How the hell do I get it to stay so I can rotate the other one?

It is easier with two people, but the cams themselves have like 2 hexagonal shapes that are cast into them along the shaft..

I usually use two 22mm (from memory) open spanners and a mate to hold heach cam in place then run the belt..

If I have no help, then I get the exhaust first, hold the tension with the belt, whilst I move the inlet into position.. its a pain though..

I'd hook the belt on the crank and loop it over to the exhaust.

I had vise-grips w/rubber attached to the belt/crank and belt/exhaust cam pulley, it'd hold it in place and allow me to loop over intake around tensioner and thus solo the belt change.

IDK WTF they're called, but I call them BFPC's (Big F*cking Paper Clips). And not the little ones, the BIG ones. They're plenty strong enough to hold the belt in place and not allow it to slip.

I learned that one from a red-neck from North Carolina.

Lol its not the belt slipping I'm worried about its the cam gear its off a tooth and I have to rotate it one tooth on both gears in the opposite direction and its kinda hard to do that with both hands on one gear trying to hold it in place and still try to move the other gear and put the belt on I need like 8 hands lol but I'm gonna try thr first answer that was posted and see what happens thanks for the help

I think I like this more than my vise-grips w/padded ends!

I have a box of BFC's at work... errr, had a box at work!

I can't seem to get the marks to line up after the belt is on like when I rotate it around to make sure the belt is on when I check the marks they are off why is that?

line up the mark on the cam to the mark on the backing plate and wedge a screw driver in between it to hold the cam in place, same for the other gear. Slip the belt on, set tension, and then remove screw drivers. DONE :)

wedge a flatblade screwdriver behind the cam gear to hold it in place.

I use the same one,but the most bigger i found in the shop.

and i buy a belt with marks,so i don't have to put the cams in the right position, just near the right position, just to put the belt with marks on the cam gears, and it's done

app. 5mn of work,it's harder to put the tensionnner than this.....

My problem isn't getting the belt on it's keeping the marks lined up as I statd before I get them to line up with the belt off, then I get the belt on, the marks are still right but when I rotate it to make sure it's good somehow the marks become missalligned how do i fix that?

OOHHHH! Dude, they aren't supposed to line up. It's something stupid like 32 rotations before everything lines up again.

Yeah I usually set the timing, crank the engine over a bunch, check it again, and reset if necessary. That exhaust cam gear always likes to end up a tooth out, the swine!

I was referencing the marks on the belt BTW. The marks on the crank and cam gears should line up every other rotation of the crank.

same as float

turn the damper pulley twice clockwise, and check if pulley marks are aligned

if you want that belt marks aligned, you have to turn the damper anti clockwise the same number as clockwise.
