Okay saturday, I went out and fiddled with my timing on the truck. I went by the FSM but ignored the references to the Consult. It turned I could decrease the timing but not advance it. The distributer was already fully advanced. I dialed it to 10 BTDC and lost a lot of bottem end. So I put it back at 18 BTDC. The distributer is on the stops. Do you think that I should take it out and notch the stops out for more advance?

You can currently set it at 18degrees? That sounds right, the oil pump is in right position. You need more advance than this? You can drop your oil pump and distributor shaft, and move it a notch on the drive gear if you want more. Im not 100% as to what sort of max and minimum this will give you tho.

I would think 18btc would be enough, thats about what i run on my 240sx sohc.

Well I tell ya devious, I have a nice bottem end the torque is great. But it just falls flat after 4k. even with the 240 cam it doesn't make the power it should. The plugs tell me that its not burning rich. And there isn't any lean detonation. I have two theories. Clogged catalytic or Weak valve springs. The timing is pretty much eliminated from that list. I guess I'll check the cat next. It has a dummy sensor behind it so I'll have to replace it.
