My car has been driving fine the past couple years. But recently I decided to check the timing. So I pull the valve cover and follow the directions as per the fsm. First problem I run into is I can find one shiny link and one dark link. After I turned the motor like 50 times I gave up. So I just made sure piston #1 was at tdc with timing mark at #2 from left. I also had the cams pointing away from each other and the one dark link lined up with the with the mark on the intake cam. I then checked the CAS, it lined up perfectly (never took it out). I put everything back together and proceeded to time with the light. With it warm, rev 3 times past 3k rpm turn off and disconect tps. When I started it up it reved to 1500rpms I turned the idle screw but that didn't help. I unplugged the iac and that brought the idle down to 1000rpm. I proceeded and set the mark at 2 from right, turned it off and plug in tps. After I started up agian the idle was at around 850 it drives fine and everything except for a hesitation at 2k rpm sometimes. So I decided to drive to school, but five hours later when came back to go home. I could not start it, kept on cranking and cranking. I had spark and could smell gas. So I loosend the cas and moved it around after a couple times it finally started. The next day I retimed the it with the light to 15 degrees while the engine was at 1500 rpms. Now it takes like 10 seconds of cranking before it catches on if I park it for 3 or more hours. I happened to check my timing after everything was plugged in and at 850rpms and found the timing to be at 0 degrees. Now is the timing supposed to be at 15 degrees or 0 degrees when you are not in timing mode? I anyone can help please let me know.
