Hey, the other day while my ca18det was running my crank angle sensor plug came off and my engine stalled out. I started up my motor and it will start up and run, but it is really rich and the idle is a bit off(will run ok, but then gut out, but then returns to normal). At idle, the engine will eventually stall after awhile. I was thinking my timing could have been offset from the CAS being disconnected while the motor was running. Is that a possibility? I checked my plugs and I have good spark on them all. Well, let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Also visually check the wiring going to it. May have got caught in the fan or even melted on something and you are getting a signal degradation.

ill check the wires today. yeh, i have no codes.. another thing too...i had to replace some of my brand new plugs before i could get my engine going again. my 3rd and 4th plugs were wet and didn't spark. once i put new ones in my engine started..but rough. but that wouldn't explain why i am running really rich.. its real rich. you can feel the gas in the air. thats why i suspected timing...? well.. let me ask too..what size of battery do you guys recommend? Thanks.

I have a harley davidson battery for one of the biggest bikes. Dont know how much that helps, but it has failed me yet even in hella cold weather when it actually got cold here hehe.

hey, i opened up my timing belt and rotated the crank until the cam dots lined up to the block. i then marked the belt at the dots. then i rotated the crankshaft to see how much the belt threw itself off. after 1 rotation of the lines they were off about 6 teeth or so(normal though i believe). i kept rotating the crank until the lines got back to lining up with the dots again..when they did...they were off by 1 tooth...the lines were behind the dot by 1...does that mean my timing is off at all? or am i just dumb.. let me know..haha..

To set timing, set the #1 cylnder @ TDC (top dead center) on it's compression stroke (both sets of valves are closed). Pull off your timing belt and then reinstall w/the 2 like colored dots lining up with the dots on the Cams and the dissimalar dot lined up with the sprocket on the crank. Reinstall timing cover. Adjust the CAS to the middle. Let the car warm up to NOT and check timing. There are conflicting stories at to whether or not the loop at the back of the coil packs is correct. For safety's sake, check timing w/a plug wire on the #1 cylnder if you are unsure. If it is still running poorly, the problem is elsewhere.

hey, how do i know if im at TDC. cant i just set the cams to line up to the block...then line up the crank to the block...and then put the belt on...or what. and i have to readjust my CAS? isn't it 15 degrees + or - from 2 degrees...or something. let me know. thanks.

To find TDC pull the valve covers, and turn the crank until both of the valves are closed on the #1 clynder and the pointer is setting on the Red marker on the crank pully. Then align your belt. After reassembly set timing to 15deg BTDC +/- 2 deg.

When the pointer is at the 4th mark down on the crank and the cams are like this -- 0 0--

The 0 are the dots on the cams and the -- is the line on the cover behind the belt and cams.

The intake cam dot will be pointing at 9 o'clock and the exahaust cam dot will be pointing to 3 o'clock. Look for the engraved line, youll see it.

If everything lines up, your at 15 degrees BTDC.
