I've just finished building my ka24det forged internals tuned ecu 550cc injectors and z32 maf. i set it to tdc and lined the roter up with the #1 wire and when i start it the timing is back atdc and when i turn the distributor it only goes to tdc so i pulled the distributor and moved it ahead 1 notch and set it all the way back and i started it and it was at 20 btdc so i was wondering if any one knows whats going on and could help me out..

Kinda hard to tell from your picture whether the timing is right or not.. but the best thing to do is:

1) Hand crank your engine with the valve cover off until the chain links line up with the notches on the cam gear.

2) When the links line up, line up the crank pulley to 2nd mark from left.

3) Yank out your distributor and realign and reinstall it.

i looked it up and my timing chain is perfect and my distributor is lined up right but something is still setting my timing back about 20 degrees i don't know if my ecu was tuned wrong or if something ells is setting it back and i would think my check engine light would come on when i start it but it doesn't .

Did you adjust base timing with the engine idling after warmup? That has to be at 20 deg @~800rpm before diagnosing anything else.

Also, make sure your TPS is around 0.45-0.5V when throttle is closed, coolant sensor voltage is good, and MAF is good and that they are all reading the right values.

All those can cause the ecu to add/remove timing.

If the MAF was bad you wouldn't be able to rev the motor past 2500 rpm. If the coolant sensor makes the gauge in the car function then it's most likely good as well.

He's just saying to check them just in case. Since all of the above effect timing. Just be sure they are working etc.

Are you setting the initial timing?

I got the timing set by turning the distributor forward one notch farther then its suppose to be and it will idle and rev when its cold but as soon as it warms up it dies when i touch the throttle and if i don't touch the throttle it will still die by its self.

You have other problems then. I've had timing off by 3-4 teeth before and it will still run...albeit badly.

I could probably turn up the iac and it would stop it from dying on its own but I still don't know why it dies when I open the throttle but when its cold it runs nice
