Timing problem

I just replaced my timing chain on my sohc and everything went well except the face that I cannot advance the timing enough. It is as far as it can turn but I am only at 7 degrees atdc, and I'm not turning it the wrong way. I may have forgotten to set the crank at tdc before installing the oil pump/distributor. Any ideas?

Sounds like you did not crank the engine to tdc.

Set the engine to tdc and then rest the distributor to where you want it.
