Timing Problem????

Okay got my car back from the mechanic and the car ran like crap all the way home. It was backfiring and sputtering and bogging down with any significant throttle. I checked the intercooler piping and found one vacuum hose loose so I connected it and it made little diffrence. I got a timing light and put it on and the timing looked to be way off. I adjusted it and it made the car feel at least a little better now I can go to a higher RPM without it backfiring and sputtering. Well my question is could the timing cause the SR to backfire and sputter? Thanks

Yes timing can causes these problems. Please tell us what the timing was at. Did you verify that with a timing light? What did you adjust? Need more info thanks.

Both timing and too large of a plug gap can cause sputtering and back/miss fires.

hey i gotta timing Q whlie you guys are talking timing .i read the srswap timing artical in faq and im confused it talks about some homemade spark plug wire thingy cant i just use my timing light ? and what should it be set at ? do i understand right to get into timing mode i need to rev the engine above 3 grand 3times leave runing then unplug the tps then take my reading ? and is it adjusted at the cas like a regular dist. is ? i have a backfire and a lil surging as it boosts up then sets free and have no idea where its set .the car has blk top sr /13 and has intake ,fmic ,hks bov and 3in down pipe and exhuast ,no cat idles knida bad too !
