ok so my timing was set at about 12 degree btdc. yesterday i went to go move it to 15 and the gun said it was way too far advanced. so I retarded it back to the second to last line and the car was acting way to retarted. It kept falling on its face and the cas was turned all the way to the right (from outside the car) I went out and bought a new timing light incase mine was defective but the new one gave me the same results. when i set the timing the first time everything was fine and the marks on the crank matched up to where they should. now for the car to run right I have the cas almost to the half way point and the and about 20 degrees past the last timing mark on the crank pully.

double check you timing belt.I found it to be easier to a line the timing marks by counting the number of "cogs" in between each mark.

Check page EM-12 of the FSM. Shows a picture of what i mean, and tells you the number of cogs.

your CAS might be fubard. Mine had the same problem. I had it crazy advanced and it was still too retarded. I took out the CAS, and found the nose of it, broken.

I'm pretty sure that you have to be idling at about 800-+50 to be able to set the timing correctly. Try checking your idle.
