i have checked my timing several times...using the coil on the back and dropping a plug wire down in

results - by using the wire on the back its 19 degrees advanced of 15 degrees so a total of 34 degrees! at idle around 925 and it runs great...but when i adjust it back to 15 degrees it falls on its face and i cant drive it....

or

by using the wire on the back and dropping a wire down in from the coil pack checking the timing it is at 15 degrees on the dot and it runs fine feels like it might be retarding timing a little on the top end but runs strong

any input on what i can do to set the timing right and have it run strong

it also fuel been fuel cutting cuz i cant get the timing exactly right

2 ?'s

if timing is to many degrees ahead that means its firing sooner then it should and there isnt enough fuel? leaning out...

or if timing is to many degrees behind then it dogs out and theres no power?but enough fuel that it wont

the reason i say it feels like its retarding timing is when i get to 14.6 lbs of boost it slowly starts to back its way back down to like 13 then 11.3ish

could this just be the t25 is starting to fail? can i do the t28 swap and maybe crank down the boost a little bit with out retuning?

Yeah, sometimes adjusting the timing on an SR can be a pain. I'm going to assume you know the procedure for putting the ecu into timing mode. First, I used the plug wire set up on mine, second, the idle must be around 850rpm when @ 15 deg. If the car is not in timing mode, the timing will be different every time you check it. So, make sure car is in timing mode, and make sure idle is around 850 rpm.

woah maybe thats my problem..i didnt put it into timing mode...how exactly do u set the ecu into timing mode...

i started the car up let it warm up took it around the block....

unpluged the tps dropped a spark plug wire down in and set it to 15 like that...

idle around 800+ or - 50 like the fsm says..

i never set the ecu to any mode to adjust the timing...

good idea how do i do that?

The reason you rev the engine before and after you unplug the tps is to keep the exhaust temp above 600 deg so the O2 sensor is doing it's job and the ecu is operating in closed loop. In my case, when I would unplug my tps, the idle would go up, so I would re-adjust the idle and reset timing, several times, before I got it dead on, all the while reving the engine to keep egt's up. Once egt's are up, the idle, with the tps disconnected, should drop. It's a couple of hours of screwing around, but you'll get it.

edit-The three revs above 3000rpm with the tps unpluged puts the ecu into timing mode and this is also the mode for adjusting the idle.

i dont have an o2 sensor its tuned out...and usually what ive done has unpluged the tps and adjusted the idle with the "iacv" down to 850as low as i can....and with the coil pack in my timing is 19 degrees advaced of what it should be "15" and it runs fine but has been breaking up a little bit

and when i drop a spark plug wire down in from the coil pack its right on 15*

the other thing is

when i use the black loop on the back to check the idle and its advanced by 19* if i adjust it from there back to 15 degrees it dogs way way down and ill stop the gas and it wont go anywhere...

from what you posted...your saying that i need to rev the engine to 3000 rpms to set the ecu to timing mode...one i set the ecu in timing mode i can adjust it back to 15 degrees and let it run for a couple minutes then tighten the cps turn it off plug the tps back in and crank it up and it should work? ill give it a shot
