On my previous '94 Q45t, I had the dealer bump the timing to where it would just barely ping on a steep upgrade in hight gear at full throttle (just before kickdown). This improved performance and fuel mileage considerably, and throttle respnse was better also.

Now I'm driving a new-to-me 2005 Q45, bought with 24k miles.I took it in to have the timing bumped on it too. The Service Supervisor told me that on the VK45, the timing is set at the factory and determined completely by the ECU. No adjustment is possible on it.

Since no aftermarket or tunable ECU is available for the 2005 Q45, is there a way I can bump the timing up? And if so, is there a setting that is safe but that will provide what I'm looking for?

The FSM will cover this.

But with possibly the worst fuel in the US, I would be wary of htis strategy.

"Just beginning to ping" is llike being a little bit pregnant. It is not good for either the engine, nor the girl if she doesn't desire that state.

Thanks.

If I can find someone who knows what they're doing, I'd like to pursue this.Midway Infiniti has indicated that they don't want to have anything to do with the idea, or possibly they just don't know how to do it correctly using the CONSULT. Either way, on my last visit there,I asked to have the timing bumped and was told it cannot be done. Does anyone have any recommendations as to where I can get this done in Phoenix?

Any suggestions on how much to increase timing beyond factory?Do you think 3 degrees would be too much?I'd count on the knock sensors to keep from having detonation occur if it's a smidgeon too high.

I know Chevy small blocks LOVE lots of timing, and 6 to 8 degrees over factory makes them run great, at least the older coil and distributor setups on motors up to my last Corvette, a '90. I've been out of Corvettes now for a while, so I'm not sure if they are still the same.

As best as I can remember, my last Q, a '94 "t" model, was bumped by 3 degrees by the dealer, and it helped considerably.

Comments?

they shouldnt have any issues bumping it 2 degrees (to 17), thats still in factory spec! I personally wouldnt go past 18 though, especially where it gets realyl hot and have crappy fuel (which you fall under both those criteria)

Thank you.

Anyone know who in Phoenix will do this for me with CONSULT?
