"Timing off" whats going on?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

Ok I unplugged tps.start enginecheck my timing adjust to +20*plug tps back on.timing marks have changed???

whats going on am i doing this right.

i also changed spark plugs and it seems im running richi aslo have an check engine light.Im also gettin hard starts, takes a couple of cranks for engine to turn on.then struggles to stay alive, then runs normal???

any experts help me out

of course timing marks have changed, you plugged the tps back in, which gives the ecu control of timing...

as long as you do it this way, you are fine:

how about if your idle isnt at 750rpm.my hands cannot reach the idle air screw you need like strech arm strong hands.

If you can't get it to the settings in that link, then your base timing will be off. By how much? who knows, maybe a couple degrees?

Best thing is to get it as close as possible before setting timing. Otherwise you're just guessing.
