Alright, so I replaced my head gasket and Im thinking maybe the timing is off by one tooth. Right now its making sort of a knocking noise from the engine. But, besides that, the car seems to start easily and it idles pretty decent.

Soooo are these symptoms of the timing being off slightly or did I eff something else up while installing the head gasket??

ooooh crap! how easy is it to bend a valve? when i was setting the timing i had it off slightly and when i was rotating the crank i felt the valve pushing against the piston. could this of bent a valve and be whats causing all the noise? i mean i didnt apply a TON of pressure when i was rotating it.

well its not the timing. i rechecked it and the timing is definitely right. so what else could it be? bent valve? anything? the sound is definitely coming from the valvetrain somewhere. the car runs perfect besides that loud a** noise.

i dont know if its your problem, but a lot of the sohc engines have lifter problems. if i remember right there is little lifters in the rockers and they can become dry if not being used and dont pump up all the way. search for lifter problems and see if it sounds like your problem. i heard there is a kit to convert them to solid lifters. may want to check that out also.
