31 degrees to be exact.

After about 4 months of having no car i finally got my valves in( a thread inside my head was stripped so i got a rebuilt head from my cousin) i slapped it on torqued everything down, Got all the alignment holes in place. My motor is at TDC dist is pointing at 1 . Didnt fire up sounded like it wanted to but nothing.

I move the dist a tooth to the right and it starts but is miss firing. So i advance the timing all the way and it runs better. I try going the other way So i move it a tooth back to where i was plus one more tooth. Go to start her up she runs fine but the timing is all the way retarded. I decided to run it she pulls fine real hard its fun.

Went to my friends shop who owns a timing gun and tells me its 31 degrees retarded. What do i do what did i do . It runs great but the timing marks on the pulley are no where near the timing pin.

Help

180 out means its 180 degrees to fix it set cyclinders to Tdc then pull dist. and turn it to its exact oppisit location.

but if my dist was 180 out. wouldnt it be backfiring thru the intake and not starting.

depends..i could be just one of those ghost in the machine things...i had a old ford flatbed from the 50's that ran perfectly 180 out..strange things have been known to work.

on the ka motor, 180 degrees off will not start....it will do what you said before. It will turn and turn, sounding like its gonna fire but wont, sucking in air but wont start.

I know bc i put a new motor in and wouldnt start at first....i was like ...turned out the dizzy was 180 out. Now funs fine. Just gotta get a new head gasket to stop my overheating problems!!!
