I know this has been gone over many times but i'm at a loss... i've been trying for days to get my afr's correct and stop my car from backfiring. i started playing around with my tps and cas and now i can't even get back to where i was. i've read that you are supposed to set the timing at idle with the car warmed up and the tps unplugged and the rpm at 750. well everytime i unplug the tps my rpm jumps to like 1200 and i've tried turning the iacv adjustment screw but it barely changes it. by the way i've got an inductive timing light and i hook it up to the loop at the back of the engine. i know this works for me cause i've set the timing with this before. do you HAVE to set the timing with the tps unplugged???

i had the exact same problem with my last sr. followed the timing instructions to the T. could not get the idle to settle down with the tps unpluged. so i just timed it with it pluged in. talked to a shop about this problem and he said that every now and again he gets sr's that wont come off a high idle with the tps unpluged. also just curious what number ecu do you have? and make sure your at tdc when reinstalling your cas. if your 180 degrees of it wont start. well lmk how it goes.

it's a #62 ecu and and i never even pulled the cas out. but i set it last night and it seems okay. it was holding steady at 15* with the tps out. guess we'll see...

idle was set to 750. as long as your idle is 750-850 your ok. and yes it held 15* how did you get it to come off of high idle with it unpluged im curious.

This has happened to me before. If i disconnect to TPS and the idle starts going up and stays, I typically rev the engine a couple times to see if it settles back down to ~800. If it stays up, i'll connect to TPS plug for a second, let it drop down, then unplug it and it usually stays. It's worked for me most of the time, worth a try.
