Ok I just got done putting my timing chains back on. It was all out of whack but I think I have all 5 marks lined up correctly now. It just seems like the cam lobes look like they are turned too far clockwise for bein at TDC compared to the JWT pics. I thought they were supposed to point more straight out or level. #1 piston is set to tdc on compression stroke here. Is this normal?

Here is a shot of the cam lobes

This is the upper chain. The intake cam's original dimple is in line with the darker chain. That other bigger one is a mark that I had put there. The yellow link is in line with a notch at the bottom of the idler sprocket.

Here is the lower chain chain at the crank sprocket. You can kind of see the dimple on the flat surface of the shaft where it steps down

Have you spun the crank twice by wrench to confirm the marks are still lined up?

I spun the crank twice and the marks do not line up anymore. But I didn't think that was even a possibility. Most other threads that I've read say that once you turn the crank the marks won't line up; at least not for a great amount of turns. I just don't want to put this all back together if the cams should be looking different.

It took me awhile to find the mark on the crank pulley so I wasnt 100% sure if that was the correct mark I should be lining up with. The fsm picture shows the crank sprocket mark closer to the actual teeth, but the only marks i could find were the spline that aligns the pulley, and then the dimple pictured; which is directly opposite the spline. Is this the correct mark to be using?

The cams look like they are in line with each other because when I turn the crank back a little bit they are angled like the picture in the JWT guide, but then of course my motor is a little before TDC.

Well I put back together the bottom end, and enough of the top end to attempt to start it, and I've still got nothing. So apparently this is not right(kind of what i was thinking though). So I tried rotating each cam counter clockwise by 2 teeth to get them to look more normal at the TDC position, but that makes the exhaust cam look like its too far back the other way now, though the intake cam looks fine; BUT still no success. Any suggestions??? Does anybody know what the alignment mark on the cam sprocket is supposed to look like?!?!?!

Here is a video of a guy installing them. I used it and my car seems to run okay but I have other issues.
Anyway here it is.

your exhaust cam looked fine, how many teeth did you retard the intake cam?(i'm assuming you're doing a 248 248 or 248/232). Try 4 teeth retard on the intake cam. I highly recommend doing the redrilled cam gear. It kinda looks like you only did two teeth retard on the intake side(but its hard to tell), 3 leaves the lobes poinging at 10-11 oclock, 4 puts it a more at 8-9.

All that matters on lining up once you turn it over is that the cams are still the same in relation to one another. It wont' line up with the colored chain links, you just need to set it to TDC and check to make sure the cams are the same as before.

Yea Im trying the 248/232, but the pics are with the stock intake cam as I was just trying to get it running again cuz I overlooked something the first time trying to use the 248 I guess. But now I do have it running with the new cams but I think its still off somewhere. First I lined up the exhuast cam so the slot was 90* to the head surface, then I put the intake cam in the correct number of links away, but then rotated it 4 teeth so a total of 2 links counterclockwise. I can drive it, but now its either extremely rich everywhwere, then it like cycles into a loop where it is extremely lean and barely running. It just constantly jumps back and forth every minute or so. Im gonna try the intake cam in the hole I drilled and see if it helps now. If not, Im guessing that Im still a tooth off somewhere.

Going off of the very first picture it looks like the intake cam is def off. I had something similar, I believe I had to rotate the upper chain at the idler sprocket by one or two teeth and then move/reposition the cams. If it looks wrong, it is. When it's right...it's right, and you know it. Thats how I felt at least.
