I'm am fine tuning my stand alone and would like to find some successful timing maps for a 88 z31?

What software are you using? You might be able to get a MSQ file form the megaforums if you are megasquirting, keep in mind to dial your timing in exact you need to be on a dyno, but what you find should get the car drivable.

I am using SDS EM-4 system. I did find a couple timing maps used on the RB30ET but as you said, the dyno is the best and safest place to go. I just need a good starting point so that I do not spend to much time/$ on timing adjustments.

Thanks,

With SDS it's a completely different animal, it's only rpm based unless you are running a 6 btm in conjunction with the em4. I'd start at stock base timing 18btc iirc then retard it a couple of degrees for every 1k rpm, keep the boost low and you should be able to get by until you can tune or add a 6 btm.

Thanks for the advice. SDS I have uses rpm and map sensor when programming timing and fuel. Though it is 2dimentional rather than 3, I can get very close to a good tune using this system. Other tuning tool include a PLX wide band and the sds data logger which is built into the sds CPU. However, In another post I mentioned heading for a Vipec i44. Now I just need to find a used one a good price. N That combined with a plx wide band.

Noted, your advice 18 degrees at idle and add a couple degrees ever 1000 rpm. That would be 30 degrees total timing. What would you pull out at 5-10-15 psi boost?
