I am changing my belts and pulleys on my 91 na ...i put my motor at top dead center and had all the markings until my friend came and moved it and thought he was doing mi a favor and taking off the belt now every thing is out of wack and he also broke the timing black sheild. -_- ...

does any one know how i can get my motor back to the way i had it so i can put my belts on or do i have to just go buy a timing gun and redo everything and also does anybody have that timing sheild laying around for sale before i go from junkyard to junk yard looking for it? :wtf2:

How bad did he break the back timing cover. This should be the metal cover that is behind the cam gears, it is extremely difficult to break, unless he bent it so much or cut it.

Resetting the time, is a fairly tough job and must be set correctly so it doesn't create engine damage. If the belt is off and to get everything realligned, you need to have the engine at TDC, you can also use the crank pulley as a reference, there will be dot on the front of it and a notch in the oil pump. This must line up. The back covers have a little dot on them just above the cam gears. The cam gears have a little dot indent, these two things must line up, be careful cause they can snap back, just take your time. These are reference only, the real trick it counting the teeth on the timing belt. Under everything you need to know about Z32 on the home page, there is a FSM, follow that exactly how it says, do not do short cuts.

You are going to need a timing light any way, even if your friend didn't take it apart, but you only use that after you have everything set. If the rear covers are that destroyed, you need new ones, I would not recommend running the car without. Debris can get in the belt and that is not a good thing. If you absolutely need the car and run without it, start at the crank pulley and work counter-clock wise. Use the white lines on the belt, set the white line on the crank sprocket, count 59 cogs and set the dot on the cam pulley to the white line and so on. It ill be very difficult to do this, but it can be done.

Are you talking about the lower timing belt cover that covers the timing belt, or the rear timing belt plates that sit behind the cam gears themselves?
