Alright, for the past few weeks I have been changing the timing chain on my recently acquired S14 SR. Well I put everything back together and the exhaust cam is out of time. Intake is fine and it is in the corresponding spot. My question is though. Is there a way that I can adjust the chain without taking the front cover off again? I was thinking about putting the motor at TDC (second mark from left if I'm not mistaken) and pulling off the exhaust cam sprocket putting the silver links where they are needed and bolting everything back up. Of course I'd need to pull the lower oil pan off to put the crank link where it needs to be. If anyone has any insight it would be much appreciated. I'd like to get this fixed before it goes in this week. Thanks in advance.

If anyone knows about timing the motor it should be me cause ive done it like a million times to check and make sure mine was dead nuts on because the motor wasn't running right

Yeah you could do it that way and but if you want to doit right and not half assed. just take do it the hard way. drop oilpan, take front cover off. the easies way to do this is unbolt the upper oil pan aswell but even with it being unbolted it still wont come off, so you have to start stickin some screw drivers in there and wedge it open just enough so that the oilpump will clear the upper oil pan and then you can pull it out nice and smooth.

then hunt down your 3 marks on the chain. if you ever took your chain off and put it back on.it might be backwards so i would take the chain out..clean the whole thing off. find your three marks and install the chain and start with the crank mark first then bring it up to your exhaust cam then over to your intake cam mark. you will most likely have to adjust the cam with an open end wrench to get everything to line up correctly.

Or you can try it your way which could also work but i wouldn't take the risk. if you need some more advice im usualy on AIM alot so give me a shout on sil80315
