Hey all. Alright i have a 91 hatch with 137k. Car would idle solid at 750 all day long. I found the tutorial stating how to remove the guides, i didnt want to break into the timing cover so i just removed the top guide. After that the idle drops to 500 while car is moving and at stop it raises to 1000+/- . So i put the guide back in and same thing. What the hell could i have done just taking the top guide off?

Nothing, your problem and you removing the guide are most likely unrelated.

Are you sure all your spark plug wires are fully seated on the plugs? I mean other than that theres really nothing else you could have done to cause this problem. Go through the FSM for the problem, 'Hunting Idle'. Follow the flow chart and figure it out.

Thanks man, yeah i was thinking the same thing. I've done all the norm, cleaning the iacv, throttle and mass airflow. Im pretty sure its a vac leak its just strange it started when i did the guide. And furthermore i cannot find a TSB on alldata stating the guides need to be removed.

It also wouldn't hurt to check your EGR & Canister solenoid. It's attached to the back of the engine by the firewall. Due to its location, the plastic tips that the vac lines connect to tend to get stale and snap off. Especially if you've been poking around in that area.

There should be 3 vac lines, one on the driver side of the unit and two on the passenger side as its mounted.

Just thought I'd throw that out there, as this was the issue for similar issues a few of my friends have been having with their DEs.
