Hey,

I have a 94 Q45 that I believe was at the start of the 94 production run. I understand that timing guides were only a problem up to 93. I have also read that some of the very early 94's got the old guides that were left over & since it was not considered to be a problem they got put on some cars! I've read somewhere on this board that there was only one reported case of this, but I don't want to be the second. I am currently on the lookout for a shop manual, but I was wondering how hard it is to check the guides. I've been working on my Q45 for about a year now, so I am ok with doing most of the work on it (it just takes time). If anyone knows of a tutorial or want to give some instructions, you can help me sleep better at night.

Thanks in advance!P.S. this is a great board!

my:

understand that in the last 3 years since that report no other 94s with that problem hvae been known to us.i consider that case a fluke now.

i myself recently accqired an early 94 and am unconcerned despite losing 2 engines to guides before.

And by the time you're to that point, you might as well replace them!

Thanks for the replies!

Palmerwmd, you say the one 3 years ago was a fluke. Do you know what happened? Was it a defective guide or were they first gen guides? I try to let it go, but it always in the back of my mind! I love these cars & like any other car you take care of them & they'll take care of you.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get to the chain covers. Also, i've heard after time the chains start to stretch just a little and cause a power loss. If they're not replaced, shouldn't they be tightened?

Again, I appreciate the replies...

It was a report 3 years ago when the old founder of the yahoo site posted that.I double checked w/ him and he said yes an early 94 and indicated a failure of an early style guide.

I really wouldn't worry about it anymore, I almost regret putting that info into my lengthy write-ups on this subjects, as those write-ups have been widely quoted on the web.And probably given some 94 owners undue concern.

At the time however, that was the most up-to-date and complete information the online infiniti community possessed.

As for chain stretch it actually slightly incraeses peak power and moves the powerband up on the rpm curve a bit.

Also the 94 production run started real early (kinda like a 93.5) and even if you have a production date deep in 93, you do not neccessarily have an early 94.

I think members have reported 94's w/ build dates in early very spring 93.

Thanks for checking that out!

My Q has a production date of 2/93. The first month of the new engine & body! I have never heard of a company starting the next years model that early, but I have the title and prod. date sticker on the driver side door that says otherwise. This is the reason of my concern.
