I picked up a used engine to rebuild the other day and got as far as getting the timing cover off. However, all of the timing guide bolts are in there way too tight, and somehow I managed to strip out all but one bolt, which came off with a TON of force. I remember back to doing the timing chain job on the motor that's in my car right now, and I sure don't remember them being nearly this big of a biatch.

These bolts are allen key size 6MM (pretty sure), and they are flush with the guide so I can't wrap anything around it.

Any ideas how to get these bastards out?

that really sucks. i reccomend you invest in a high quality extractor set or possibly just take the motor to a machine shop. there are more than one type of extractor. the easy out type is easy to use but dont always work. the straight flute type is the best. i use them on broke exhaust manifold studs all the time. it will involve drilling a hole and hammering a fluted rod in the hole. then you will turn the rod with an adapter in the kit. if there is any way you can get the head of the bolt off it will help you out a lot. then tension is held by the head of the bolt.

Or destroy the guide under the bolt and remove it, heh. Beware of flying debris.

oh oh oh, they are those allen head bolts! i thought you meant they were 6mm diameter bolts. i know what you mean now. i would drill them out with a drill that is roughly the size of the bolt diameter. when you get through the head the guide will come out from around the bolt. then you will have a good amount of bolt sticking out to mess with(vice grips).

Got them out finally... I hammered a 6.5mm Allen key into the hole and used an extension to force the bolts off. Never has a crack sound been so satisfying.

Thanks for the help guys.
