im trying to check my timing and im running into a problem. i have the clamped hooked to the white wire on coil #1. when a point the gun down at the crank im not seeing an orange dot to line up the lines with. the lines are showing up but nothing taht would show where the timing is at. also when i unplug the tps the car dies out.

there should be a loop (single black wire) on the back by the ignitor. Put the clamp around that and try again

Hmmm, if you simply pulled out CAS and didn't do anything with the motor at all then it should have been fine to just put it back in. That's cam timing anyway. As far as the TPS issue, your engine should have issues when it's unplugged.
