Timing change with a new injector?

I just replaced #3 injector after it went bad and now noticed a pinging on acceleration. I retarded the timing slightly and no more pinging. My question is why would the introduction of a new fuel injector cause valve pinging? I plan to change out the remaining 3 next week. was set at 22 btdc, now 19 btdc

Well I think 20 is stock, so that means that you were advance a tinyy bit. If you aren't using premium fuel than advancing (sometimes even stock timing) will ping...

What's weird is that it didn't ping at all until the new injector was installed and the timing wasn't changed at all. Could it be that with more fuel coming out of the new injector compared to the 122,000 mile one (assuming) a bigger "explosion" is occurring now causing the pinging?

More fuel would make it run richer, thus less likely to ping. Unless the injector is the wrong one, or damaged, or somehow placing less fuel (bad spray pattern) into cylinder. Make sure your fuel pressure is correct under all driving conditions.
