I was wondering how long I could drive with timing chain loosening up and if that is the cause of my rough idle. The whine isn't too bad. Just had a major tune up and looking at the motor lasting me until I get my SR20 in about 6-8 months. It's not gonna up and die on me is it? I hope I hope I hope.

you risk destroying your engine completely beyond economical repair, if your chain slips too far, or goes altogether.

Yeah it'll go something like this.tic tic tic tic BOOM Crack Grind POP PFFFFFFFF Cough........

I wouldn't drive it. that way you could sell the engine. But if you have to you have to. Just don't go out driving hard

yea the chain can snag on one of the broke guides and snap. i have been driving with it rattling for a couple months and i drive hard but i could just be lucky. and since the car is parked now waiting for an SR from daunt i dont really care.

**** man that sucks, my car had the craptacular chain rattle when I bought it, my step dad thought it was the water pump, then I read in the faq about it and I read it was harmless.. I been drivin it fo rlike 19k and now my car has a really ****ed idle.. I think my chain is going extra screwball.
