So my 240 finally started the timing chain rattle, prob. because ive been driving her hard lately back and fourth to orlando for school, but anyways i need a new engine.

So, if anyone in the central florida area has a good running KA24DE lying around that they want to get rid of then let me kno and ill take it off your hands.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could help me out. You can contact me at [email protected] (but i only have time to check it maybe once a week) or better yet you can call me at wither 321-453-6473 or 321-698-7422, ask for Shaun. Thank you.

You dont need an entire new motor just because you chain is rattling now.

Ya man just change the timing chain. Its alot easier to do than fwd cars b/c our chain in right in the front not cramed off to the left side. But if i were you pay like $200 and have a shop do it so if they **** up you get a new engine.

$200??? the shop i go to locally told me it would be 700 to replace the timing chain, and they wouldn't guarantee it. I said screw that. Whats the normal running rate i shoudl be looking for, for a shop to replace the chain and guides?

I believe its one of the tensioners, most likely the lower one..which is a ***** to replace compared to the upper one. Before you do anything that costs tons of money, try an oil cleaner like Rislone (yellow bottle, looks like quart of oil), some people have fixed the problem with this as the tensioner had a clog in the tiny oil path (tensioners run off oil pressure). Just dont let it got on for too long and wear a hole through the water jacket....

Its a biotch to change the timing chain on a 240. Thats why just cause it rattles, that doesn't mean its time to change it. Chains are chains people, they are hard to break. If the tensioners go, then thats a diff. story but how often do you hear about a tensioner letting go?

But whateva, do what makes you feel good.

Actually I hear quite a bit. And its not just the noise that spurs people to get it fixed...its the fact that it makes the noise from the chain hitting the block, which eventually will wear throught the block to the water-jacket, which then mixes coolant and oil..and thats not good.

Also, I'd imagine it would lead to premature chain failure by "stretching" it cuz of the slack on it and it may even skip the sprockets and damage your engine.

So in conclusion, if having a good, running car feels, good then yes...do what makes you feel good =)

I started to change my timing chain to day so im changing it and come to find out the timing chain guide was shattered so the tensioner maybe ok it just i gotta order i new one from the Nissan dealer but it not all that bad when you start it can be done just buy a Chilton or any other repair manual and it will guide your thru the whole thing also its easier to change it on a KA24E then the KA24DE because with the KA24DE you gotta take the head off
