I am currently replacing the head gasket on my 89 ka24e, and need to know if there is any way to release the pressure on the timing chain tensioner without removing the front timing chain cover, if it is possible I really don't want to have to remove all the accessories onthe front of the motor. Thanks in advance.

There is a certain procedure that you can do. Set you engine up at TDC. You then need to find a clean wedge block that you can position under the upper gear and wedge the chain tight. This allows you to remove the upper gear and pull your head while keeping tension on the lower half of the chain.

This is very difficult to completely explain to someone, do your self a favor and pick up a chilton/haynes/factory manual. For this process, even an l or z series book can help you out because they are similar.
