you can do it. have a copy of the FSM handy, a pry bar, 27mm socket, some allen keys, 10/12/14mm sockets, RTV, some oil and coolant, and a pair of pliers and you should be good to go.

DO however, study notes that people have posted on the timing chain job. On the E, the biggest PITA I encountered was with the line up of the oil pump and distributor. Otherwise it's a very straight forward and pretty easy timing chain job. Good luck.

this is weird, was driving to work today, with my car playin tick tick tick in the background, well i hit a bump and when i came up to the light i listened and i couldnt hear the tick tick ticking..... And before it was loud, i mean u could stand 20 feet away and hear the damn thing. got off work tonight, started it up, got out, listened, and u can only faintly hear it now, just faintly, and some of my power loss has come back (yes it had a power loss, u floored it in 2nd and it felt like u were in a dodge spirit.... im beggining to wonder if it was an oil clog, because when my friend borrow the car, it started and he put a quart of oil in it and it shut up, but just for a little bit.... hmmm, well ive only drivin the thing a total of 4 months, but owned it for a year this febuary, and i dont know when the last time the oil was changed (on my things to do list for when i get money), i mean im jumping for joy on the outside because its not ticking as loud, but the inside of me is just scared to all hell

well i will try that my next paycheck. something came to my attention today, i was hanging out w/ a friend of mine and he mentioned he put a bottle of lucas fuel injector cleaner in my gastank the other day. i believe it was that same day that the car started ticking, and the next day it lost id say 1/4 of its power. today when i got on the highway i ran it up to redline in 3rd gear to catch up to the speed limit, and it rose in rpm's rather slowly and didnt want to go past 5200 rpms's, kindve like there was sumn clogging an injector or two. could my ticking, and the power loss be connected, maybe a case of a cylinder not getting any or little fuel into the cylinder, then the ticking from an igniting sparkplug that is lighting nothing?

possible but not too likely. i would chalk that up to coincidence. if the fuel additive was causing a prob it would most likely start in one cyl and give you a misfire type of problem. this could be anything like a chunk of carbon that got lodged in a valve or the rings.

Dunno about the loss of power, but I can assure you that with the hydraulically-adjusted valve lifters that the ka uses, low oil means LOUD valve tapping. That may be what you're experiencing.

it could be low oil, but the weird thing is, after the really cold weather hit, i havent heard it.... but who knows, the tapping could be from oil, and the loss of power could be from a fuel injector clogged, after i put another tank of gas in, ive gone thru about 3/8ths of it and ive got some of that power back so...... we will see soon

cold weather=more oil pressure=maybe the lifters or chain tensioner is working better

maybe
