ok. i just talked to my mechanic friend and he let me know whats going on with my car. the timing chain is hitting the valve cover. he said it is either the chain busted but not totally broken apart or the tensioners. i found a timing kit on ebay for 120$US which has Cam Gear, oil seal, crank Gear, Lower Chain, Upper Chain, Upper Tensioner, Lower Tensioner, Lower RH Rail, and Lower LH Rail. would it be better to just buy the kit and replace it all with new parts or just replace the chain and tensioners?

I have heard bad things about the Ebay kits, and would stay away from them. The most common problem with the timing chain on the KA, it that the tensioners fail and the chains start to slap the guides.

I would start out by just working on the upper chain. There is a pretty good possibility that this may be your only problem. Purchase a new upper tensioner, upper chain, valve cover gasket, and some liquid gasket for the front upper timing cover. Also, you should remove the chain guide between the cams if it has not already been. This part is not needed and only causes problems.

Doing the upper chain is an easy job, the lower chain on the other hand gets many more points on the PITAmeter.

Behind the upper timing cover, on the front just a little futher down from the valve cover. You can see the upper tensioner with the valve cover off.
