timing chain

ok guys...i am getting ready to replace the whole timing chain on my ka24de. do i need to remove the oil pan to do so? if so what else may i run into that i may need to know about? thanks

you do need to remove the pan..as part of the oilpump assembly is attached to the bottom of the motor...the oil sump tube allso stock down into the baffle area of the pan..making removing the front cover extreemly difficult from just the front....and since you have to remove the lower timing chain cover that houses the oil pump..you might aswell change the oil pump too while its easy to get to..there is a benifit to droping the oilpan..2 actually..#1.) you can replace the old dry seal on the pan..#2.) you can inspect the pan for sighns of metal debris..to prevent catastrophic failures....last bit of advice..since your there..change the water pump and thero too...thats my 2 cents bro..hope this enlightens a bit..if you get stuck on sumpin..just ask here..one of us cool niccoheads will help.
