Hello, I have a 2001 Maxima with about 142000 miles. I know the car has a timing chain so it is not like the hondas requiring timing belts every 60000 miles. My question: Is there a miles/time interval where the chain should be changed?I see some forums talk about slippage.....is the Vq engine an interference engine or non interference? With the miles I have, if the timing chain ever needed replacing.....is it worth it?

ThanksWalter

timing chains do stretch and tensioners wear out with age. the vq is an interference engine, however i have never seen a timing chain break on one with out warning signs (misfire, check engine light, engine noise). replaceing the chains is a lengthy repair and can be quite expensive. i would say if you have trouble free driving right now don't worry about the chain and keep on driving. as to wether its worth replacing thats your call to base on the value of the car and the price of the repair.
