Im replacing a head gasket in me 89 240 and it has 140000 mi. on it but it was drivin by a grandma all its life so do you think i should replace the timing chain or just leave it alone?

Does it tick or anything? Visually inspect it, if it looks worn and has cracks or anything then I would go ahead and replace it. If you have the money to buy a new timing chain go for it, new parts never hurt. If not, I would just go by this writeup to remove the guides/clean the tensioner.
