Figure i may as well replace the timing chain, tensioner, guides, and oil gallery gaskets along with the water pump. Im not quite sure which tensioner to get though. I think it's part number 13070-JK21C but theres also a 13070-JK21B. I think the C is just a newer revision? Alot of the gallery gaskets say for "rear" but they all look the same? i'm getting the gasket set from concept z with the gallery and hex bolts.

I'm also not 100% sure about the timing cover itself. Looks like here are some gaskets for it but the videos i found they just used rtv? I haven't been able to find an actual tear down of the process that didn't already have it all removed with the exception of the older engine (not the HR) but i guess it's pretty much the same process. Is there anything else i'm forgetting to replace?

Oh and it looks like i don't have to remove the valve covers unless i was going to change the cam chains? hoping that is the case. Does anyone also know if i have to remove the ac compressor? Think it's just removing the brackets attached to the power steering pump. Any info on torque specs would be very helpful

* Oh Looks like the timing gasket set comes with vvt gaskets that i don't need so guess i'll be ordering the ones i do need individually? I'm no sure of all the ones i need other than the crank seal and oil gallery

Nope, B is the bank1 tensioner and C is bank2. Main chain tensioner should be 13070-1MR0A. If you're doing all three chains then you'll want all three tensioners, if you're leaving the cam chains then you only need the main tensioner. All the VQ's I'm aware of have no gasket between the front and rear covers, they all use Nissan "gray death" which is a hybrid RTV. Permatex Ultra Gray is an almost exact equivalent and much cheaper. The two gaskets you positively want to replace while the main chain is off are the oil gallery gaskets on the rear timing cover. The factory Nissan gaskets aren't great, but CZP, Z1, and some others make composite steel gaskets which are very superior. Leaks in the gallery gaskets are a slow and often-undetectable death because it oil-starves the IVT's and mag-draggers at low RPM, but won't turn on the oil lamp until the leak is bad. Note that the aftermarket gaskets usually have their own torque spec which differs from OE.

Sweet, thanks for being helpful through these dark times 😅

So the "oem" gallery gaskets from z1, are those the not so good ones or the improved ones? I didn't recall seeing other options there but I'll check again

I also can't seem to find the updated gallery screws. I saw them included in a set but not on their own

The gallery screws are out of production at Nissan, but CZP has them independently from the gasket...

...or you can just get a kit, the ones from CZP, Z1, and EPS Tuning are all the improved steel type.

Last thing I need to find are the O-rings not sure how many I need for the cover itself. There's a set on ebay but those look like they may have ones I don't need like the water pump and thermostat

IIRC there should only be 2 o-rings in between the front and rear covers on an HR, the book shows 15066-JA10A. There are a bunch more between the rear cover and the block, but you won't be messing with those. The main tensioner should come with a new ring.
