Hey what happened to the timing chain sticky? I was gonna go check it out before doing a timing chain job on my car. Do you think 130k on a chain would be a good idea to have the job done at that kinda mileage? If not what'd be a good point to do the chain job? Also any tips on the oil pan? I know I'm supposed to lift up the engine a bit, but damn that's a pain in the butt not to mention the removal of the oil pan. BTW I've a SOHC motor for now.

thanks ahead of time

I think I read somwhere that the engine doesn't necesarily have to be lifted or the oil pan taken off completly but just the bolts removed cause they are attached tio the cover. And Yeah that is a good time to do it.

Definitely a good time to do it. As for the oil pan, you don't NEED to remove it, you just have to remove the first 6 bolts nearest to the front of the engine. However, if you pull the front cover and notice that the guide on the driver's side is gone and only the studs are still there, it might be a good idea to bite the bullet and pull the pan to fish the pieces of the broken guide out of it.

I don't know about you guys, but I just changed mine. It took 12 hours. because I DIDN'T TAKE THE PAN OFF. I have a ka24de with 140,000 miles on it. The oil pump is in the front cover and the pick-up runs into the oil pan. If you don't take the pan off there is no other way that front cover comes off. I didn't lift the motor I dropped the front susp. took about 20 mins to drop.

With the SOHC motor you do not , repeat, DO NOT have to take the oil pan off or lower it. nor do you have to lift the engine.

It was my sticky that was there, I'll look for it for you. :)

Ah yes, I remember that thread.

And yes, the timing chain job is much easier for a SOHC for the fact that you don't have to take off the oil pan because it is UNDER the front cover.

It's definetly easier to drop the front suspension on the DE than lifting the engine, although you do need to support the engine with a puller or a jack and block of wood, seeing as how you must unbolt the motor mounts to get it down.
