Sorry if this topic is covered here somewhere...I couldn't find anything on it.

I want to know what the factory recommended interval for timing chain replacement, if it is critical to do so at that interval and what damage can result if the chain breaks while driving?

Thanks.

No need to worry about the chain. It should last forever. Only concern is you should remove upper and lower chain guide and make sure tensioner is working properly. If chain is loose, it'll make a noise, wear out and break eventually. But you hardly hear chain breaks on KA, so chance is very slim.

Yes, contrary to what you may believe, I did a search using just about every combination of "1993" "240" "timing" "chain" "replacement" "change" "mileage" "intervals" and came up with all sorts of posts, including reams of tech articles and the really good collection of tutorials but not the post/thread you pointed to.

Maybe it was just a matter of searching in the wrong window, something I imagine you have never done...lol.

Thanks for taking me by the hand.

Thank you for the basic, straight forward reply...greatly appreciate.

Had a friend experience a belt failure on a Ford while doing a test drive and the ensuing nightmare has been unbelievable.

Thanks again.

Ok, so after what I thought was a fairly thorough search and finding nothing to answer my specific question, then getting your reply that, quite frankly pissed me off, I reverse engineered your link which eventually took me here: http://www.240sx.org/That seems to be a different site and certainly one I have never seen before nor did it show up on any previous 240 searches over the past year.

Still can't find your information via any NICO searches I try but thanks for pointing me to 240sx.org just the same.

Dude, my intent was not to piss you off. On the contrary, the convertible 240 crowd is a pretty laid back bunch. My post was tonge in cheek. I did a Google search on "timing chain replacement 240sx" and found several good posts, the third being the URL I included. So my comment was if I could find it in like 30 seconds you could have too.

Welcome to the forum, post pics when you get a chance.

p.s. And you're right, I did not search on the NICO site first as the 240's engine is pretty generic, I figured I'd get a better/quicker hit using Google.

Nico's great strength is the user community (we're not all tools like me ) because everyone here is committed to helping other members and someone has probably experienced whatever you're dealing with at some point.

Peace!
