I have done some reading here on posts about doing the timing chain replacement in a Ka24de and it says remove the oil pan.Why would you want to do that?I have changed them on a 90 with a KA24e and never had to do so..The one we are working on is a 91 dual cam but still see no reason to have to loosen the engine and raise it up and remove the pan..If someone can tell me why this is neccesary it would be appreciated...It looks to me you just take the four or five little bolts going up into the timing cover through the pan and remove the timing cover.Thats how the single overhaed cam 89 90s are done and I see no differance....Thanks

you need to at least unbolt the oil pan and raise the engine up. the oil straner is bolted to the crank shaft bearing housing.

Thanks,I found this out after reading some more past posts..All I can say is I have seen some really stupid automotive engineers do some really stupid stuff.Ford comes to mind as a first one but that boneheaded engineer that designed that has got to be totally stupid..Well I guess it is what it is..Probably that idiot added hours of extra labor for that idiotic design that I am sure was not neccesary to do it that way....Well enough ranting I guess and off to work on it......Also read that some manuals say you should loosen or maybe remove the head to do this job, that one would definitley top the oil pan one but looks like that one is not atleast neccesary to do as faras I can tell,thankfully..... Thanks though for replying.
